The "fanciest" burger

If there ever was a fancy burger, the $16 burger at Restaurant Tallent in Bloomington is it. Tallent's reputation for rich, high-end dining advertised well in advance the incredible burger we were about to encounter, which was complemented nicely by good wine, good service, and a good measure of butter.

The burger at Tallent is a handmade patty of ground Fisher Farms sirloin, with thick cut bacon, truffle mayonnaise, Capriole Farms Old Kentucky Tomme, and a thick, homemade bun. It was at the table neither too fast not too slow, and was correctly cooked. The fries were crisp and the thick, homemade ketchup that accompanied them was flavorful and authentic. Tasted just like a tomato!

We chose a salad to accompany the burger, and were not let down by the Roasted Vegetable Salad. The seasonal fall vegetables were accompanied by more Capriole Farms Tomme, in addition to toasted foccacia and truffle vinaigrette. Amazing flavors.

Our only complaint: the burger at Tallent was an incredibly huge and extravagant portion--I can't imagine one person finishing the entire thing, and heartily propose the burger be advertised as a two-person meal. Even approaching it in this way, I felt a bit uncomfortable after just half. Partially to blame for this rich overload was the bun. I don't usually like to criticize buns (ha!), and this one was tasty and sweet as a good bun should be. However, it was a heavy potato bread type of roll, cakey, with a lovely crumb that succeeded in taking the burger over the top. This is a burger to plan an evening around.
